I was talking with a programming veteran this week. He pointed out that the fatigue developers feel working with AI agents - lining up a task, then jumping to another while the agent churns - is exactly how programming worked in the punch-card days: You submitted your job for a slot on the mainframe, then switched to something else while you waited for the results - and it was exhausting.
Everything old is new again. The batch era is back - for now.
